Mental Health First Aid

Commerce City Rotary Club-Mental Health Initiative collaborates with Community Reach Center bringing Mental Health First Aid in English and Spanish to community stakeholders.

  • Mental Health First Aid DOES NOT teach people to be therapists.
  • Mental Health First Aid DOES teach a 5-step action plan to equip them to come to the aid of someone in crisis.
  • Mental Health First Aid: Be a FIRST RESPONDER  for your community’s Mental Health.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)…

  • Interactive 8-hour training course that presents an overview of mental illnesses and substance use disorders in the United States
  • Teaches an evidenced-based five-step action plan that are easy to follow with materials for non-clinicians to understand interventions and help an individual who may be experiencing a mental health issue
  • Topics covered include: anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD) and eating disorders
  • Provides knowledge to help individuals in crisis, similar to CPR for the body; MHFA is for the brain

Individuals trained in MHFA can help to:

  • Break down the stigma associated with a mental illness
  • Reach out to those who suffer in silence, reluctant to seek help
  • Let veterans know that support is available in their community
  • Provide community resource information and provide a listening ear
